Admission to Degree Programs

When are you accepted into your major?

There are two types of transfer admission to UB. You can be admitted to the university and to a particular major, depending on the amount of college credit you have, your choice of major, and your GPA. Or, if you don't yet have sufficient preparation for a particular major, you can be admitted to the university's general undergraduate student body in the College of Arts and Sciences. You can apply for admission to a particular major after completing all the prerequisite courses.

Below is information about departments that have specific requirements and deadlines for entering their programs:

Architecture

Portfolio required for upper-level studio consideration. No portfolio required for first-year studio placement.

SUNY application February 15.
Departmental application and portfolio deadline (if required) February 28.

2.5 in architecture and architecture-related courses; 2.5 overall.
Grades of B- or higher are required for major articulation.

Art: Acceptance to Art Foundation Program on a space-available basis. University-accepted students with five or more transfer art courses must submit a CD portfolio; application required. Contact advisor for more information.

Art: CD-ROM portfolio only. Submit between February and April 1. Communication design majors should contact advisor for personal appointment.

2.5 in prerequisite courses, 2.0 overall.
Each prerequisite course must be completed with a grade of C or better.

Nursing

Supplemental Admission Procedures/Requirements:
Complete two applications. File the UB application at http://admissions.buffalo.edu and the nursing application at http://nursing.buffalo.edu. Contact School of Nursing for advisement.
Application Deadline:
Basic Program: Complete application to UB by February 1 and apply to nursing February 1-28. Upper division classes start in fall.
Accelerated BS (ABS) Program: Must have previously earned a BA or BS in non-nursing field. Complete application to UB by October 15 and nursing application by November 1. Twelve-month program begins in May.
RN/BS Program: Fall admission only; requires AAS or diploma in nursing, RN licensure, and part- or full-time employment in clinical nursing. Recommend both complete applications to UB and nursing by June 1.
Minimum GPA for consideration:
Basic Program: Application requires very strong overall academic record and completion of nearly all 13 prerequisites including anatomy and physiology. Complete all 13 by fall with a C or better. Admission is very competitive and on a space-available basis.
Accelerated BS (ABS) Program: Application requires minimum of 3.0 overall and in prerequisites and a plan to complete all nine prerequisites by May with a B or better. Admission is very competitive and on a space-available basis.
RN/BS Program: Requires a minimum of 2.7 overall and completion of all 11 prerequisites with a C or better.

Pharmacy Practice

Supplemental Admission Procedures/Requirements:
Applicants lacking pre-pharmacy prerequisite courses must submit SUNY application.
Applicants who have completed all of their pre-pharmacy prerequisites must apply through the central pharmacy application service (PharmCAS). Supplemental (department) applications must also be completed. Interviews are required and are available by invitation only.
Undergraduate degree is not required.
Application Deadline:
February 1 for PharmCAS.
Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as application review begins well in advance of this date.
Minimum GPA for consideration:
3.0 in prerequisite science and math courses.
Applicants who have earned baccalaureate degrees are encouraged to apply.
Applicants should review the PharmCAS school information page on the school's Web site at pharmacy.buffalo.edu, or contact the office of pre-pharmacy advisement in the School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences to ascertain that the correct prerequisites have been completed.
